I have grouped both Cranstoun Churchyard and Cranstoun New Cemetery together as there are only 1 CWGC stone in each and 1 further war grave in each, so not really worth two separate entries.

CRANSTON or CRANSTOUN
"A Parish on the North East border of Edinburghshire, containing the villages of Cousland, Edgehead and Ford, the last being ½ mile West by North of Pathhead and 4¼ miles East South East of Dalkeith. Irregular in outline Cranston is bounded North West by Inveresk; North by Tranent; and East by Ormiston and Humbie, in Haddingtonshire; South West by Crichton and Borthwick; and West by Newbattle and Dalkeith."
(Extract from Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland 1885)

Cranstoun Parish Churchyard is just off the A68 in the grounds of Oxenfoord Castle (seperate entrance). The Church was built in 1824 then destroyed by fire in 1861, but restored lated the same year. (NT 384 656).

The entrance to the church is via a short drive off the A68. This is the entrance into the churchyard from this drive. You can see the Ford U.F Church WWI War Memorial on the church wall, behind the tree.

The church from the churchyard.

The drive, looking towards the A68.

Cranstoun New Cemetery is located on the B6372 (just off the A68) West of Blackwood Farm and just before you turn up to Edgehead. (NT 382 648).

Shona, I see from the latest news release from CWGC that they intend to erect a new stone for Jinks.
