WILLIAM HUSSEY, Captain in the New Zealand Colonial Force
Late of Her Majesty’s 9th Regiment of Foot, who was killed at Wairoa, New Zealand
While gallantly leading an attack on a native Pah on the 25th of December 1865 aged 31
Eldest son of William and Margaret Hussey
[Mod Edit Adam] Captain Hussey had served in the Crimea and been in the 9th Regiment of Foot before joining the Taranaki Military Settlers volunteer unit in New Zealand. See more about the campaign he died in here:

Captain Hussey and 100 men, Taranaki Military Settlers, arrived from Opotiki just too late to take part in the Hungahunga-toroa expedition. Captain Hussey was killed in the engagement at Omaru-hakeke, Upper Wairoa, on Christmas Day, 1865.

Thank you for posting this photo, both these men are my great uncles, I didn't know much about this only heard through family that two uncles had passed away in WW1. They are both Maryhill born and bred and I feel so sad that Robert is now lying in an unmarked grave. Alexander was killed at Neuve Chapelle there is no known grave for him. I didn't know this memorial to them existed, it's so nice to see them both commemorated. Catherine. |

I Hope you can help.
My three great Uncle's have a ww1 grave memorial in Eastwood Cemetery. I have been in this website in the past to download the picture but now it seems to have a photo bucket image on it that covers the name of the two other brothers. I was pulling something together for the centenary of ww1 and wanted a copy of this photo of the grave. I am also going to visit this grave for this also. Its the only stone with three Cameron brothers , George , Noel and Donald.
