The Steep brae of the Corpses and the Grave of the Soldiers (Gaig nan Corp agus Uaigh nan Saigh dear )

After the battle of culloden on 16th April 1746 men fled from the battlefield and two of the Jacobite soldiers were exhausted so they lay down in a hollow at the top of the brae . The following morning the sleeping soldiers were executed by the Hanoverian dragoons . Their bodies were taken later down the slope by the locals and buried at the edge of the arable ground .

In 2004 a memorial cairn was erected replacing the old one that was placed by James Dunbar , Invereen on the burial mound in 1940 .

The inscription reads "On this spot lies the remains of Two Highland soldiers members of the army of Charles Edward Stuart executed nearby while returning home after the battle of Culloden on 16th April 1746 "

seems that there is an info board fixed to a stone plinth at the top of the brae . cairn can be found at Grid ref NH 79653/ BNG 30124
