Capt George Grant, Indian Navy who died at Barholm House 22 Sep 1874 aged 81 years
When 16 years of age and for 30 years served his country with honour and bravery, enduring much hardship and distinguished himself by many deeds of kindness shown to the native population; returning home he spent the remainder of his life in peace and comfort even ready to relieve the poor and distressed

What a surprise to see this man here. He is listed on the Colvend Parish War Memorial and on the Dalbeattie War Memorial.
James Williamson Pool, 2nd Lieutenant: 5th/6th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) Age 20. Enlisted October 1914 1/5th KOSB and became Corporal (1289) Commisioned in the Cameronians and attached to the King's Royal Rifles. Served in Gallipoli and France. Twice wounded.
Born 1897 at Whitehill, Colvend, Kirkcudbrightshire. Son of James amd Jessie Pool of West Barcloy, Colvend.
Missing in Action 20 September 1917. Remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. |

The Japanese cargo ship "Tamahoko Maru" was part of a convoy sailing towards Japan from Java with 772 Australian, British and American prisoners of war when on 24 June she was torpedoed and sunk by the US submarine USS Tang.
Archie had been a PoW since the fall of Singapore. Before the war he had been a chauffeur with the Duke of Bedford at Woburn Abbey. |

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary Salvage Tug "Hughli" sank off the Belgian coast.
Some sources say due to hitting a mine; some due to a storm.

Contact with a sea mine would seem to be the likely cause of the loss.
Gordon was an RNR man and there were 13 members of the Mercantile Marine Reserve lost on this vessel. They would not be commemorated by CWGC if the loss was due to a storm.

However the RFA site http://www.historicalrfa.org/rfa-war-losses has:
On 26 April 1919 RFA Hughli, a salvage ship, exploded and sank off the Belgian Coast. Nineteen of the crew were killed.
He is listed on the Kirkmabreck Parish War Memorial in Creetown.
Thomas Gordon, Sub-Lieutenant: Royal Fleet Auxiliary "Hughli", Royal Naval Reserve. Age 41.
Born 1877 in Kirkmabreck. Son of Joseph and Elizabeth (McCormick) Gordon of Dairyfield, Creetown. Husband of Agnes (Callander) Gordon of Albert Street, Newton Stewart. Thomas had served in the Mercantile Marine for 22 years when, in May 1918, he joined the RNR Salvage Section and was posted to the Salvage Tug "Hughli". He was drowned when the "Hughli" sank off Nieuport, Belgium. |

Is it not possible that both are true? Capsized with 11 survivors, subsequently refloated and returned to service and later exploded with 19 casualties? No date given for the capsize.

Hardly likely she capsized, was refloated, then struck a mine on the same date - 26th April 1919.
My money is on the mine explosion causing the deaths of the men, this fact confirmed by the relevant authority and then the casualties commemorated by CWGC headstones in Belgium and France or on Naval Memorials here.
