Here is an interesting one from Balfron Churchyard. Corporal Walter Buchanan of the 42nd Foot, the Black Watch, who was killed at the Battle of Waterloo 1815 aged 21. The stone is dated at the base 1816.

Another interesting stone from Balfron Churchyard. A recumbent sandstone slab (broken) engraved with a sword and said locally to mark the grave of a crusader knight. The sword has (faint) straight quillions at right angles to the blade giving it a cross like appearance however the tapering blade and slightly thinner handle confirm it as a sword. There are no other visible marks.
