They are both listed on the Annan War Memorial but it doesn't give any more clues.

It seems to have been a speciality of a local mason, I have a few more similar to post.

The partial cleaning of this stone was not done by me and is a further example of partial cleaning of a name on a family stone which is done to the soldier's name only.

HMS Exeter was sunk on 1st March 1942 by the Japanese at the battle of the Java sea. There is a memorial to the ship and crew in Exeter cathedral.

This memorial mentions Captain R N Dudgeon HM 40th Regiment. No idea when he died or in which battles he might have fought but his wife died in 1874 which might be some sort of clue.

George I A Duncan MC. I don't know any more but the MC on the gravestone and the poppy cross placed in front of the stone make me want to include it here.
