These are variously called churchyards (and extensions), burial grounds and cemeteries. I have generally used the same description as CWGC. The list is not complete but I will add to it as I identify further sites.

Hi Spoons,

There are two cemeteries not listed on your sticky or the following listing.

There are three RAAF lads at Kirkinner Cemetery south of Wigtown (CWGC photo looks very eerie) and five lads at Stoneykirk Cemetery near Stranraer.

Should I list them or wait until they are added?

Cheers

Geoff

Thanks for that - I have several cemeteries already photographed but still to sort out and post (including Kirkinner). I will also try and update the list with all of those yet to be collected, so yes - please wait for after I have listed them if you can.

I owe a great debt of thanks to Chris Newman of the CAST site http://www.cast.org.uk/dagwargraves.htm for his listing of all the listed war graves in Dumfries and Galloway and details of the graveyards.

Of 663 listed graves (includes uknown and civilian), I have to date posted 275 (over 40%) so still a long way to go.

Hi Kenneth - sorry I'm about 2 weeks behind on some of my mail on memorials and graves, too many projects (memorials, graves, remembrance, mountain rescue team and running a local technology club!).

I think I see the problem. Wigton is in Cumbria, Wigtown (with a W) is in Galloway. Does that fix it?

Still working my way around and correcting previous errors and omissions - thanks to anyone who points them out.

Just by way of explanation - I have marked graveyards as COMPLETE if I believe I have posted all legible inscriptions. Of course I make the odd mistake and also there may be other inscriptions which I cannot read but can be made out by those more patient (and with better eyesight) or with the aid of transcriptions.

List now amended to include all cemeteries and churchyards with CWGC listed graves. There are undoubtedly other graveyards yet to be listed with military inscriptions and these will be addded as soon as we find them.

Hi Paul

I've posted some Stranraer (Sheuchan) Cemetery pics; I need to go back to get two or three more before it's complete but would you be able to update the index list to show that it's now an active one.

Thanks

Mike
