Seaman HERBERT CHARLES HILL
Regiment or service: Mercantile Marine, SS Eaglescliffe Hall
Date of death: 18 January 1941 at the age of 19
Was found dead in Stornoway Harbour.
Interred: Sandwick Cemetery

HILL is in the CWGC database but in a section you cannot see online.

His grave is NOT a war grave. It is classified as a Non-World War Grave in CWGC Care. This means that he did not meet the conditions applying to the Merchant Navy for war grave status qualification. As a member of one of the Recognised Civilian Organisations, Merchant Navy men only qualified if they died on duty and of a war cause (torpedoing, mining, etc). HILL did not and, therefore, does not have War Grave status. When his headstone is replaced , he will receive a clipped corner Non-World War style stone.

Those in this non-war grave category are listed by CWGC but the list is not available online.
