Last address in Lewis: 4 Aird,
Son of Finlay and Effie MacLeod, of Aird Point, Stornoway; husband of Jessie MacLeod, of 5, Aird Point, Stornoway, Ross-shire.
Service unit: Royal Naval Reserve, SS Arca
Service number: 4522B
Date of death: 2 October 1918 at the age of 33
Drowned in fire on board his ship
Memorial: Chatham Naval Memorial, panel 30
Local memorial: Point (Garrabost)
His ship caught fire in a storm, and patrol ships were unable to render assistance. He was on service since commencement of hostilities.

Date of death: 23 October 1916 at the age of 22
Killed in action in France
Interred: Guards' Cemetery, Lesboeufs, grave VIII. D. 4.

Second Officer NORMAN MURRAY MACDONALD
Last address in Lewis: 7 Aird
Service: Merchant Navy
Date of death: 11 March 1943 at the age of 21
Lost on SS Baron Kinnaird sunk by U-621 NE of Newfoundland.
Was youngest 2nd mate at age 19
Memorial: Tower Hill, panel 14
Local memorial: Point, Garrabost

Able Seaman ALEXANDER MACDONALD
Last address in Lewis: 7 Aird
Son of Malcolm and Annie Macdonald.
Service: Merchant Navy, SS Stockport
Ship torpedoed by U-604 in mid-Atlantic, with the loss of all hands
Date of death: 23 February 1943 at the age of 31
Memorial: Tower Hill, panel 101

Date of death: 25 December 1914 at the age of 61
Washed overboard from HMS Edinburgh Castle in a storm and drowned

Son of Mr. and Mrs. John MacSween, of 1, Upper Garrabost, Stornoway.
Service unit: 4th Gordon Highlanders
Service number: 1595
Date of death: 16 June 1915 at the age of 24
Killed in action in Flanders
Memorial: Le Touret Memorial, Panel 39 to 41
Local memorial: Point (Garrabost); Nicolson Institute WW1, right panel

Slightly wounded day before, but declined treatment in order not to miss attack next day. Fell in that attack. Was a student at Aberdeen Training College when he joined the Gordons.
