Name: GORDON, CHARLES
Initials: C
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Sergeant
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Unit Text: 454 (R.A.A.F.) Sqdn
Age: 45
Date of Death: 15/02/1944
Service No: 967357
Additional information: Son of Margaret Gordon, and stepson of William Todd; husband of Elizabeth McEwan Heeps Gordon, of Stirling. SNWM has birthplace as Stonehaven.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Sec. M. Grave 27.
Cemetery: STIRLING (BALLENGEICH) CEMETERY

There would appear to be a few discrepancies on this stone.

CWGC & SNWM have him listed as Charles whereas the inscription has the initial G.
Also, his age is listed on CWGC as 45 but on the stone it has 55.

As his wife Elizabeth is also listed on the stone, it's more likely that his age was 45, nearer that of his wife.

Someone, somewhere along the line has got a wee bit mixed up . . . . . and it's not me this time!

This was the third time I had looked for this stone and hadn't been able to find it. Fortunately for me, on this occasion the gravediggers were attending a burial and had a lair plan with them. I had passed the spot a dozen times but hadn't noticed the tiny peg in amongst the daffodils.

I've forwarded the details (along with photos) to the CWGC Scottish Regional Supervisor so hopefully there won't be a blank space for too much longer.
