Location: Gartocher Terrace, Springboig, Glasgow G32 0HE.
Map Reference: NS 653 644

No. of Identified Casualties: 178

From CWGC: Glasgow (Sandymount) Cemetery contains 67 scattered burials of the First World War, 110 from the Second World War and one French war grave. (See page 12 for French War Grave)

Rather than the usual grave references, e.g. 'Section XXX', the sections are called 'Compt XXX' which I presume to be short for Compartment.

Despite 6 visits, I have been unable to find 12 out of the 178 identified casualties.

If you look really hard, you can just about see the stones in this section (Compt. D)!

Sandymount also has a Jewish Section and although there are a few family stones listing casualties of war, none of them are CWGC burials. This section of the cemetery was used before Glenduffhill Jewish Cemetery was established a few hundred yards away on Hallhill Road. The following images are from this section which appears to have had more than it's fair share of vandalism.

There is also this 'heap' of gravestone bases. They look to be mostly Jewish going by the names and they're piled up beside that particular section.

Does anyone know the amount of CWGC burials a cemetery has to have before it qualifies for a Cross of Sacrifice?
