Surgeon Niel Smith MD RN 1780 - 1819. Niel Smith served as Assistant Surgeon on board HMS Victory at The Battle of Trafalgar 21st Oct 1805. He helped the Surgeon William Beatty to treat Vice Admiral Lord Nelson when he was fatally wounded by a musket ball at the height of the battle. In 1806 he was promoted to Surgeon and continued to serve in the Royal Navy until the war with France ended in 1815.
