Wigtownshire Free Press (11 April 1918) reported: Mrs Alex. Cain, Isle of Whithorn, has been officially notified that her husband, Sapper Alexander Cain, fourth son of Mr J Cain, blacksmith, Whithorn, was killed in action in France on 12th ult. Sapper Cain was builder at the Isle of Whithorn before he enlisted, and was a first rate footballer.
