Born 1894 in Altrincham, Cheshire, John was a compositor at the Dumfries Courier & Herald when he enlisted in September 1914 as Trooper 2245 in the Lanarkshire Yeomanry. He was transferred to 26th Squadron, MGC, Imperial Camel Corps in Egypt . John served at Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine.

This one took a bit of finding on CWGC, I could just make out the family name and the word "Sapper" but I was not expecting an "Aussie"
