Hauptmann GERD HANSMANN
German Air Force
Born 21.09.1914, died 05.05.1941
There is no mention of this grave on the CWGC database for Lennoxtown/Campsie The grave is obviously visited going by the floral tributes, which I believe must have been placed reasonably recently as their colours haven't faded and are quite 'clean'.
The stone sits on it's own against the South East Wall of the Churchyard on the plot allocated to patients of Lennox Castle Hospital.
Thanks to Ken Morrison for sending me the following link which explains all about Observer Gerd Hansmann's death:
http://www.aircrashsites-scotland.co.uk/ju-88A_5_blairskaith_muir.htm
It's also very worthwhile visiting this site (a link on the above): http://www.welcometolennoxtown.co.uk/plane_crashes.htm |
