Hi all,
Does anyone know where I can get more info on this guy?
Flying Officer
F.D. Foott
Royal Air Force
1st June 1947
He died in 1947 so should be on CWGC or SNWM, but he's not. I also tried Armed forces RoH just in case (I know it starts only in 1948).
Is this a private look-a-likey headstone? I notice the corners are cut away unlike other headstones.

That's a non-CWGC stone, which you can tell by the cut-off corners.
If the Armed Forces Roll of Honour only starts from 1948 then this guy might just fall in the gap between the ARoH and the CWGC. |

FRANCIS DREW FOOTT - his death was registered at Leuchers, Fife.
He died, aged 53, from heart attack and fractured skull in a "falling accident" in the officers mess at RAF Leuchers at 05.00 on 1 June 1947.
A single man, his address is given as the RAF Officers Mess.
His parents John Charles Foott (Gentleman) and Frances Foott (Drew) were both deceased.

I saw one before, in Palestine I think, where an officer is listed as 'died accidentally'. He actually fell off a flat roof on the officer's mess and broke his neck whilst playing table tennis!

I was at a mess night somewhere (in Germany I think) and towards the end of the evening a number of the young officers took up the challenge to perform a high level traverse from the upstairs landing around the well of the hall and back to the other side of the landing. I pleaded an early duty and left. One fell and got a broken ankle. It would have been about a 15 feet drop. Another mess night a young officer got a bad burn from setting off a thunderflash indoors whilst holding it in his hand. Young officers, alcohol and bravado are a bad combination.
Of course this man could have been helping to put up the decorations for a summer ball or some other innocent task.

It is a CWGC provided non world war stone. I am not sure why he has one, but regardless, CWGC will maintain it.
Foott had links to Mallow, Ireland and was an officer in the Connaught Rangers during WW1.
