Wigtownshire Free Press (8th March 1917): Intimation has been received, in a letter from the front, that Private James McGeoch, Royal Fusiliers, son of Mr W McGeoch, Challoch, Newton Stewart, is missing. He was about 22 years of age, and was for some time in the employ of Mr McCreath, Challoch, and immediately prior to enlisting was in Glasgow. There is reason to believe he may have been taken prisoner.

Wigtownshire Free Press (5th April 1917): Mr and Mrs McGeoch, Challoch, have received notification from the War Office that their eldest son, Private James McGeoch, lately reported missing, was killed in action on 17th February last. Twenty three years of age, he enlisted with the Sportsman’s Battalion on 4th January 1915, and after training at Hornchurch was drafted abroad. He was wounded on May 7th 1916. Invalided home for a short time, he again went abroad on December 6th 1916. Prior to enlisting he was a chauffeur to Mr Kelly, Borrowdale, Newton Stewart. He received his education at Challoch Public School. A quiet and unassuming young man he leaves many friends to mourn his early death.
