Col Alexander Henry McNeill of Shennanton, Kings Own Scottish Borderers.

The Galloway Gazette of 8 November 1930 carries a long obituary. I have extracted the military history from it: "Col McNeill had a fine military record. In 1908 he joined the 5th Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He served with them throughout the war in Gallipoli and Egypt and Palestine, and was awarded the Serbian Order of Karageroge, with crossed swords, the highest Serbian award, for distinguished service in Gallipoli. About a year after the reconstitution of the TA he was appointed Lieut Col of the 5th KOSB and it was chiefly his untiring efforts and his own great popularity that very soon the Battalion rose to full strength. He remained Colonel of the 5th KOSB for seven years, three years beyond the normal period, and on retiring the command was made Honorary Colonel of the Batallion, which position he held at the time of his death. He was Chairman of the Territorial Force Association for Wigtownshire."

Major Alan Walmsley MC

The Journal of the Scottish Rock Garden Society April 1969 published an obituary to Major Walmsley: “Members of Scottish Rock Garden Club will be saddened by the news of the sudden death of Major Alan Walmsley MC, who had a long and active association with the Club, having been a member since 1936. He had a distinguished Army career and served in the 1914-18 War and served in the Royal Welch Fusiliers, in which he was awarded the Military Cross for great gallantry and was mentioned twice in dispatches. After being severely wounded he was invalided out of the Army, but served again during 1939-41 in the 19th L.A.A. Regiment, R.A."
