Thanks to Irene Bryson of Kirkgunzeon who has found that "Phillip Smith listed as "killed in action" in Kenya was indeed Chief Inspector in the Kenya police force. He had been home on holiday in Kirkgunzeon and only back in Kenya for a week or so when he was ambushed and shot by locals. His brother went to Kenya for his funeral and brought back the flag from his coffin, it's still with family in the village." |
