Listed on the Maxwelltown/Troqueer War Memorial, Francis was a baker in Dumfries and, as a former soldier and reservist, he enlisted in August 1914 joining the RAMC. He was attached initially to the 2nd Connaught Rangers and then to the Liverpool Regiment.

William Hugh McQueen was an agricultural labourer working at Pierson, Manitoba, when he enlisted there in January 1916.
He was born 1891 at Borgue, Kirkcudbrightshire, the son of John and Marion (Seaton) McQueen of Balannan Farm, Ringford, Tongland.
He married Elizabeth Grier of Millburn St. Kirkcudbright in 1916 in Kirkcudbright while he was on leave.

An update - Tom was commissioned as 2nd Lt. in September 1915 and promoted to Lt. in June 1917. He was awarded the MC in August 1916. (L/Gaz 25/8/16 p.8464).
