I'm still trying to work out which William Smith this might be.
He appears to be the son of William Smith and Agnes Parker - POSSIBLY!
and he might be 23 or 28 years.

Update - I think it is this man.

William Parker Smith – age 29 – Private (657) 1/3rd Battalion, Scottish Horse. Enlisted August 1914. Transferred to the Imperial Camel Corps. Served at Gallipoli and Egypt. Killed in the Sinai Desert. (Source: SRoH)
Born 1886 in Beith, Ayrshire. (Source: SNWM and GRoS – Birth Register)
Son of William and Agnes (Parker) Smith of Cumstoun Mains, Twynholm and later of Culdoach, Kirkcudbright. (Source: CWGC and D&G Standard 11/10/1916 page 3d)
Died on Active Service – 17 September 1916. * see below
Commonwealth War Grave – Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
Also listed on the memorial and roll of honour in Twynholm Parish Church.
In September 1915 the 1/3rd Scottish Horse arrived at Sulva Bay, Gallipoli, having been converted to an infantry unit in Malta. At the beginning of 1916 they were in Egypt, defending the Suez Canal and using camels for mobility. On 1 October they were again converted to be the 26th Squadron (Scottish Horse) Machine Gun Corps of the Imperial Camel Corps. (Source: 1914-1918.net)

*On 16/17 September 1916 the 1st Camel Battalion made a night march to attack the Turkish positions at Mazar in the Sinai desert. 2 men of the 7th Company (which included Troopers from the Scottish Horse) were lost and were later found to have died of thirst. (Source: Great War Forum)
