I recall being told many years ago that a german plane crashed on the Campsie fells during WW2 with the loss of her crew, who were taken to Fintry kirkyard for burial.
They may have subsequently been repatriated to Germany?
can anyone confirm/clarify - I note there is no mention of their grave on the Fintry record.

Hello Cowgate,
Welcome to the Forum!
If you have a look at Campsie Churchyard & Cemetery, http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/viewtopic.php?t=748 this might be what you're thinking about?

Very interesting but also very strange why they moved only 1 body to Cannock as I'm sure the Germans wanted all their graves located there. _________________ There must be a place under the sun where hearts of Olden Glory grow young .....

The reference that Anne details also has a link to the welcometolennoxtown site where there is the following:
Mrs. Hansmann had intended having her husband's remains reburied in Germany, but after the sense of calm. peace and beauty she said she experienced on her first visit, she wanted him to remain in Lennoxtown, and made arrangements for flowers to be placed on his grave once a year. Although she re-married, Mrs. Hansmann continued to visit for many years.

Anne, Derek, Ken
thank you very much for this - I have double checked with my original source who has confirmed it was indeed Lennoxtown and not Fintry.
the confusion arose from a crash on Meikle Binn, the highest point on the Campsies, which being closest to Fintry led to my thinking that was where it was.
(Anne don't know if you have seen my message re one of the graves at Kirkintilloch Old Aisle where you had queried the award of a Croix de Guerre)
