Hello to All,

I have spent the last few hours going through the amazing posts by so many dedicated members. I hope I have given my respect to all the brave men and women who gave their precious lives by viewing the memorial grave stones. So many gave so much!

My mother was born in Glasgow and my father was in the Polish Navy. I was born in London, England. We came to the US in 1954. Just a little background on me!

I have come here with a quest to help find my uncle's burial site. My cousin got in touch with me after many many years. He has been trying to find the place where his father my mother's brother is buried. I guess it is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack when not having all the specific details.

All I know at this time is that my uncle died in 1947 (?)at the Seaman's Hospital located in Greenwich, Kent. He was born in Glasgow 1915(?) Arthur John Robin.

I will come on here again if I am able to get any other specific information.
All comments are appreciated, thank you! THANK YOU to all the dedicated people who have spent many hours searching and photographing the War Graves.

Sending my happy thoughts through the looking-glass.
♡ ƙarola

Welcome to the project. He is not listed on CWGC so that would mean that he either died after leaving the armed forces or he served in the Merchant Navy and is therefore not listed.

I don't know of any way to tell where someone is buried in these circumstances unless you are lucky and find the grave.

Good luck

Hello Paul,
Thank you for your kind reply! You are right he just may have transferred into the Merchant Navy.
I am so glad I found this wonderful web site. It has made me appreciate even more the great sacrifice endured by so many.
I have shared my experience here with my son; and I will share this also with my cousin who is living in Australia.

Welcome to the Project

Just a thought. Do you know that he was buried in Scotland? If you are unsure there is the remote possibility that he may have been buried in Greenwich Cemetery, London.

I did a search but could not find an address only a telephone number (that I am sure would be expensive from U.S.A.) but an email address - registrar@greenwich.gov.uk if you send an email with as much info as you have you might just get a surprise.

Only a thought mind you but you never know

Best wishes

Tony

Hello Tony,
Thank you, for your 'just a thought' it is a very good thought!

It was my thinking that some one may have sent his remains back to his birthplace, Scotland. But that is a good thought he may have been buried in or around the hospital such as you mentioned Greenwich Cemetery. I was also wondering if possible to find and check the hospital records(archived somewhere). There should have been records that would indicate 'release of' and who received my uncle's personal effects and remains.

I will e-mail my cousin and enquire if he has made any other inquiries. It is difficult because family that may have had information are long deceased. I know my cousin will be making a trip to UK soon. I would like to at least help with giving him tips on a good strategy.

Tony, thank you so much! Your reply and information is greatly appreciated.

Even if we don't find my uncle's (Arthur John Robin) resting place at least we tried our best. Nice to receive such a warm welcome here.

Best wishes,
Karola

Unfortunately the Seaman's hospital closed in 1986 but this may be of interest - http://www.seahospital.org.uk/

Hi Tony,

Every little bit of information helps! Thanks for looking up the Seaman's Hospital link.
This Internet is fantastic.
It makes our world smaller and smaller and makes us all linked with just a touch of the keyboard.

I'll keep in touch and let you know of our progress.

Thanks,
Karola
