Hello,
My name is Diane and I have recenty started up a website in commemoration of Irish Guards in WW2, the Regiment that my grandfather and father served with in WW1 and WW2 respectively.

Not a lot to do with Scottish War graves you might think ... and you'd be right. However, I am currently preparing casualty lists for other Foot Guards and already have some photo contributions for Scots Guards, from members of another forum (username is dbf there also.)

So my reason for joining is twofold.

Since I live in NI, I can't contribute any grave photos from Scotland, but I can add those photos I have received for graves overseas.

I would also like to know if it is possible to ask for help with war graves of Guardsmen buried in Scotland for use on my website. It is not for profit and offers help and advice to those who are researching their relative's service, as well as attempting to illustrate each name on the Roll of Honour with either a war grave photo or a biography. Still very much in its infancy, but mighty oaks and all that... Rolling Eyes

I am sure you will let me know if I have committed some major faux pas by posting this here or requesting help... entirely unintentional if the case.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

All the best,
Diane

Welcome. Are you interested in memorials for Irish Guardsmen from WW2 as well?

Lt Col Armstrong-MacDonnell is commemorated at Kirkpatrick Juxta and you can see the memorial on our sister site at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=968&mforum=warmemscot

The photos are mine and you are welcome to use them as you see fit.

The same applies to William Maxwell on the Dumfries memorial at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=543&mforum=warmemscot

Paul,
A great welcome thanks.
Yes I am very interested - in fact in all Foot Guards regiments for WW2.

Many thanks for the permission to use, much appreciated indeed.

Regards,
Diane

I should also say that I would also like photos of memorials/headstones for those who saw service in the Guards Regiments, or were attached to them, during WW2 but who survived the war, ie not falling under the remit of CWGC.

Of course trickier to locate, but if anyone knows of some or stumbles across them, I'd appreciate the information at least.

Thanks

Andrew Bell and Martin Bell at Kells http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=725&mforum=warmemscot and http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2323&mforum=warmemscot

Frank Dalziel on my own memorial at Dalry http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1758&mforum=warmemscot

Capt Dorman at Cairnryan (the only WW2 name) http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2200&mforum=warmemscot

Plenty more memorials but you can search these yourself from your own armchair. Any posted by 'spoons' you can just help yourself, I suggest you ask the poster for any others.

Don't know if you are interested in this sort of thing but Peter Wilson is commemorated on the family gravestone at Stoneykirk although he is not buried there http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/viewtopic.php?t=704&start=15

Regards

Paul

Adam and David, much obliged. Really decent of you all.

I will be trawling through the site and getting used to it as soon as I have been able to complete my full list.... thanks to uncertainty of cwgc changes I have had a little push in that direction lately.

Regards,
Diane

Hello and welcome Diane,

Help your self to any of mine too - or if you want higher resolution copies, send me a PM with your personal e-mail, and I'll send you copies.

Thanks Anne, your offer is appreciated. May be a while before I get it all together, but don't doubt I will be in touch.
All the best,
