I have been advised that RNR men who were discharged from the service due to injuries or ill health in WW1 were considered to have reverted to being civilians. Therefore, if they died (shortly) afterwards as a result, they are not recognised as a CWGC war death.
As you know, I post from the Isle of Lewis, which supplied a large number of naval reservists in WW1 and this policy (if confirmed) is not well received. It fails to properly recognise the service rendered by those men, even more so because their illness and death often did result from war service.
I would like to invite comments, and ask whether it is feasible to have the law changed to rectify this injustice. |

I don't know the detail of Reservists terms but is this any different from any serving member of the military who was discharged as no longer fit?

It is my understanding that if you died after discharge from a war related cause then there is a case for commemoration. Not sure if there was a cut off date in these cases. However, I stand to be corrected.
