Courier & Advertiser Wednesday 22 Sept 2010 : Craigie column :
In Memory of last Victory crewman from Trafalgar :
I have heard from former Marine Dave McCraig , who is involved with the Royal Marines Association in Arbroath. He is interested in JAMES CHAPMAN , the last crew member from HMS VICTORY , who fought in the Battle of Trafalgar to die . He died on NOVEMBER 12, 1876 and is buried in the WESTERN CEMETERY , PERTH ROAD , DUNDEE .
As October 21 marks the anniversary of the BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR , Mr McCaig has organised a service which will take place at the cemetery on Sunday , October 24 at 2.30pm.
The branch padre Andrew Begg will lead the service which will also involve the Sea Cadets from Arbroath and other branches of the Association.
Mr McCaig is keen to get in touch with any descendants of JAMES CHAPMAN who may be interested in attending the service . He can be contacted by email at davemac294@yahoo.co.uk or by mobile on 07818 653402
