Joined this forum at the end of April, as I had amassed a large number of pictures of wargraves, related to the Iolaire Disaster. This tragedy claimed the lives of more than 200 Lewismen, returning from the First World War on 1 January 1919. They drowned when their transport, HMY Iolaire, ran aground within sight of Stornoway Harbour. It served to highlight the huge sacrifice made by the people of Lewis towards the war effort in 1914-1918.

Following on from that, I carried on photographing wargraves for the First World War as a whole, and latterly for WW2 as well.

If it had not been for the men of places like Lewis laying down their lives in WW2, Europe would have suffered under the Nazi jackboot for many a year beyond May 1945.

I don't have a picture, Neil, but will put it in the Queries section of this site and see what comes up.
