1914-15 Star :

British War Medal and Victory Medal:
12277 CPL. D.M. RAIT. GORDONS.

With copy Medal Index Card (colour - front and back), Commonwealth War Graves Commission and Soldiers Died in the Great War details and copy Death Registration. New ribbons.

David McCheyne Rait was born in Forres in 1891. He was the son of David, a farmer, and Lizzie Rait of Dyke, Forres, Elgin and enlisted in Forres.

He landed in France, as Lance Corporal 12277, on the 3 September 1915 and was Killed in Action on the 11 June 1916, whilst serving with the 1/6th (Banff and Donside) Battalion Gordon Highlanders, part of 152nd Brigade in 51st (Highland) Division.

He is buried in Maroeuil British Cemetery, about 4 miles north-west of Arras, France

There are pictures of the family memorial, in Dyke Parish Churchyard, Moray in Scotland which includes reference to David here and then the thread on the Forum opens up.
