Hi.
I visit this graveyard every few weeks and tend to a few of the graves, mainly Cpl Peter Todd MM & Pte Samuel Todd. I went in the other day to find a few of the War Graves (including Samuels) had been spray painted with the words IRA etc.. I was sickened to say the least!!
I have managed to clean most of them but need to get something stronger than elbow grease to remove the rest.
Can you give me the names of the gravestones you have been unable to identify and photograth?

*I subsequently found Mark Green's name on one of the stones in the Jewish Section (and promptly forgot to add it to the forum!). It doesn't mark his place of burial though - I have confirmation from the Cemetery Records Office that he was buried in common ground and no markers/stones are permitted there.

Good luck in trying to locate the above graves - I've given up! Laughing

Photos of the stone bearing Mark Green's name have now been added (Pg. 5), however, as explained in that post, this is not his grave.

As the remainder of the inscription is in Hebrew, I don't know whether this could be the grave of a member of the Green family.

Flight Officer Marie Gray (see previous page for photographs of her gravestone).

Thanks to Forum Member 'Tonym's' perseverance and hard work, the following info has come to light:

The following is a précis from a 59 page Service Report from The Library & Archives Canada

"Marie Gray left High School in 1949 and started training as a nurse. By 1957 she had qualified as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife. With these qualifications she emigrated to Canada and continued her nursing studies subsequently qualifying as a Postgraduate at Montreal Neurological Institute in 1961. She now applied for a Short Service Commission with the Royal Canadian Air Force Medical Services and was accepted with the rank of Flying Officer and posted to 3 Wing RCAF at Zweibrucken, Germany.

On 2nd November 1965, whilst off duty, she was traveling as a passenger in an automobile in the Pirmasens area, near the French/German border, when the car was caught in a gust of wind. The vehicle was forced across the road into the path of an oncoming bus. The car driver was killed and Marie was seriously injured suffering cerebral laceration, contusion and depressed frontal skull fracture. Despite all efforts at the U.S. Army Hospital at Landsthus, Germany she died 12 hours later.

There was a funeral service, with full military honours, at the Air Station Chapel on 5th November and her remains were placed aboard an aircraft for transfer to Scotland where a burial service took place at Sandymount Cemetery. An official RCAF Headstone Cross was subsequently added to the existing Headstone."

The search for information on Marie has been ongoing since I found the grave in Sandymount Cemetery in 2008
