Hi I am the nephew of Victor Selwyn Curd who is buried in the Grave site in kilkerran. I don't know all that much of his life or how he passed away but hope to find out more from fellow members .

From the Commonwealth War Graves site:

Nationality: New Zealand
Rank: Lieutenant (A)
Regiment/Service: Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve
Date of Death: 04/07/1944
Additional information: Son of Henry and Clara Elizabeth Curd, of Pukekohe, Auckland, New Zealand.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Division 4. Grave 593.
Cemetery: CAMPBELTOWN (KILKERRAN) CEMETERY
I think he would have been at the Royal Naval Air Service base at RNAS Machrihanish (the A after his rank of Lieutenant is for AIR)

John - his death was registered at Campbelltown.
The place of death is "In hills north of Campbelltown"
and cause of death "Due to War Operations. Aircraft Accident"
The register entry is available on-line (for a fee) at http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Or send me a Personnal Message and I can e-mail a copy.
The Squadron number is given but it's very faint - I think it's 848 or 868 - but one of our members has info. on air crashes so he might be able to clear that up.
Some new info. It was 768 Squadron, training off HMS Ravager - an escort carrier.

Hi Ken,
Many thanks for your reply, yes i would be keen to get a copy of the site you mentioned, i don't know how to purchase one being in NZ. The fact so many people died in the war is so sad and for families left with out sons or daughters returning must have been very hard . my Grandmother Vic's Mother passed away on his deaths same day, she lived to 92 .We hope one day to visit the graves in Kilkerran, see how things go,
