I've been trying to identify the following man on CWGC without much luck.

He's listed on SNWM as follows:

Surname GREEN
Firstname John
Service Number 2050
Date Death 20/08/1917
Place of birth Glasgow
Other 5th Bn. (T.).
SNWM roll THE HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY
Rank Pte
Theatre of death Egypt.

Son of William & Isabella Green (nee Bruce)

Lambhill Cemetery thread (Page 20).

These are the three John Greens in the HLI I can see on CWGC. Doesn't seem to be the one you found. Could he be a non-comm?

GREEN , JOHN Serjeant 331824 13/04/1918 21 Highland Light Infantry United Kingdom Panel 9. PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL. ( also listed on Glasgow Roll of Honour)

GREEN , JOHN Private 11099 12/03/1915 24 Highland Light Infantry United Kingdom Panel 37 and 38. LE TOURET MEMORIAL (also listed on Glasgow Roll of Honour)

GREEN , J T Private 29180 16/11/1916 Unknown Highland Light Infantry United Kingdom I. S. 5. HEBUTERNE MILITARY CEMETERY (John on SNWM)

Thanks Adam.

I'm working my way through thousands of war grave photos and attempting to put them on a spreadsheet and that's the reason for me having so many queries recently.

Like you, I don't think any of those 3 John's are the John in Lambhill.

Maybe he ended up in a different regiment or the matching date on the stone and on SNWM are wrong Confused

The SNWM number appears to be wrong. The MIC shows this man as John Green, formerly 1206. Details from NOK may account for the addition of Edward by CWGC

Name: GREEN, EDWARD JOHN
Initials: E J
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: Highland Light Infantry
Unit Text: 5th Bn.
Age: 24
Date of Death: 20/08/1917
Service No: 200050
Additional information: Son of William and Isabella Green, of 81, Crossburn St., Glasgow.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Panel 44.
Memorial: JERUSALEM MEMORIAL

There is a Norwegian merchant seaman buried in Lambhill Cemetery, Glasgow. I couldn't see him listed on the SWGP in the Lambhill thread. Do we have his grave recorded?

GJENDEMSJØ, Kasmer
Rank: Maskinist (Engineer)
Unit: Handelsflåten (Merchant Navy)
Date of Birth: 07.01.1908
Date of Death: 04.11.1942
Grave location: R 2114

No, we haven't found him.

Section R in Lambhill covers two of the 'segment' shaped parts next to the Cross of Sacrifice at Balmore Road and I've been round there a dozen times and haven't seen it.

The Bird's Eye view below shows where Section R is, so if anyone fancies going walkabout ........?

Hi Hope you found the info you needed on Edward John Green. He was my uncle. His name is the family plot in Lambhill. His body was never found.
