I think that this is Frank's story but it has been a bit confusing.

FRANK YOUNG – age 35 – Lance Corporal (6423) 3rd Battalion, Border Regiment.
Reporting his death and military funeral the D&G Standard of 6 July stated that Lance Corporal Young enlisted when he was about 15 years of age and was through the South African War. Being a reservist he was called up on the outbreak of war and was one of the first Dalbeattie men to go to France. He also took part in the Dardanelles campaign.
(Source: D&G Standard 6/7/1918 page 2g)
Military records show that Frank did enlist on 29 January 1901 and he was serving with the Border Regiment at Carlisle Castle in March 1901. He gave his age as 18 and his birthplace as Longtown, Cumberland.
Frank, a pedlar aged 26, and Mabel Young, 26, were together as a family with their 3 children in the home of Mabel's father, Shadrock Reay, at Back Street, Longtown, Arthuret, Cumberland in 1911, but he married Mabel in October 1914 in Dalbeattie when he was a Private in the 3rd Reserve Battalion, aged 31. He joined the 1st Border at Gallipoli in July 1915 and later he served with the 2nd Border in France.
There is no record showing him as being in France in 1914.
Frank was officially discharged from the army due to illness on 25 June 1918 and he was awarded a Silver War Badge (412371) but a day later he died of tuberculosis at his home in William Street, Dalbeattie.
(Source: SWB Record, 1901 &1911 census, Medal Roll/Card and GRoS – Marriage and Death Registers)

Born c.1883 in Hexham, Northumberland.
(Source: 1911 census but cannot trace)
Son of the late Thomas and Mary (Davidson) Young.
(Source: 1891 census and Marriage Register for Frank and Mabel)
Husband of Mabel (Reay) Young (later Mrs Robert Green) of William Street, Dalbeattie who he married on 27 October 1914 at Dalbeattie.
Died on 26 June 1918 and buried in a Commonwealth War Grave in Dalbeattie Cemetery.
Frank's name is not on any local War Memorial.

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Grave 1557.

The CWGC Register has Driver I - EWART, BRYDSON - but the grave marker has I. B. EWART.
He was IVY BRYDSON EWART born 1927 in Dalbeattie and died in 1947 in Chepstow, Monmouthshire.

The family stone is also a bit "odd" - his mother is shown as MARY McGHIE but all the records (CWGC, Birth, Marriage and Death) have her name as McKIE!
