This weeks Galloway News reports that the residents of Kirkcudbright have raised over £7000 for the repair of gravestones damaged in a by two drunken druggies.

The good people of the town have a history of fund raising for grave markers. In late 1918 they raised the funds for a gravestone to mark the burial place of 5 soldiers drowned in the sinking of the RMS Leinster whose bodies had been washed ashore in the surrounding area.
