Family stone in New Kilpatrick (Hillfoots) Cemetery, Bearsden.
J. Albert Homberg ('who made the supreme sacrifice') at St. Quentin, France, 21st March 1918 aged 23 years.
Son of Gustav Homberg and Margaret S. W. Smith
Can't find anyone by the name Homberg on either CWGC or SNWM.

P.S. His father Gustav Homberg died at Milngavie in 1920, (DC on Scotland's People) so the spelling appears to be correct. |

Ken has the correct man. An Alias is not unusual with a germanic name.
His MIC confirms his father as G Homberg Esq, Shawfield, 46 Cathkin Road, Glasgow.

That is true, and my use of alias was intended to show he used a surname which was not his real surname, he was registered at birth as James Albert Homberg.
Had his family provided details to the Commission at the time he may have been recorded as 'Alias/Served as '. All that is recorded are the basic details provided them by the Army, who knew him as James Albert Smith.
