headstone in the Crail churchyard in Crail erected by his parents for
JOHN BUCHANAN PATTISON, LIEUTENANT, 7th BLACK WATCH (R.H.) who died at Crail on 1st August 1924 aged 27 years
NOTE
Lieut Pattison had worked for a short time at the Clydesdale Bank, Anstruther after leaving Waid Academy . On the outbreak of WW1 he remained at the bank due to his age but then aged 18 he joined the ranks of the MMGS and was commissioned 2nd Lt into the Black Watch joining the 7th Bn in France . Wounded on 30 July 1917 to his neck, leg and right heel when serving with the Trench Mortar Battery. Appointed Lieutenant on 5 March 1918 and he returned home at the end of the war to his family home at 1 Toolboth Street CRAIL . He died of TB and his funeral was on 5 August 1924 . No obituary in the Red Hackle Magazine of the Black Watch for that time . His father John Pattison died in North Berwick in 1925
