BIRSE Pte JAMES McHardy , 6461 , 3rd Bn Scots Guards aged 31 son of John and Catherine mc Donald Birse , of 16 Annfield St Dundee , husband of Dora Coyle Birse , born Dundee Grave FF 5 337
Listed above with the Imperial War Graves commission index ( now CWGC )
and since 18th February 2016 his name is recorded on the SCOTTISH NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL the Castle Edinburgh accepted by Lt Col Roger J Binks , Keeper of the Rolls and secretary to the Trustees .
Initially recorded on the military registers as Private but now recorded as GDSM Scots Guards
The SNWM index will be updated in due course but his name has been accepted as a casualty as he was seriously wounded to his shoulder in action on 25th October 1914 and taken POW and due to his serious wounds exchanged as a prisoner and issued by the War Office with a Silver War Badge.
