A little bit of background to Craig Dunain Hospital might be useful.
Craig Dunain Hospital opened in 1864 as the Northern Counties District Lunatic Asylum with accommodation for 250-300 patients in single rooms. It was the third District Asylum to be built in Scotland, and occupies a splendid hillside site above Inverness.
I would be interested to know how this man ended his days in an Asylum. |

I worked as a student nurse in Craig Dunain in the early 1980's. It was a hugh victorian building with long corridors and many rooms. It was one of the earliest "asylums" in Scotland, opening around 1864. (I think!) It closed sometime in the late 1990's early 2000's.
I used to have some stuff on its history, I will try and find it if anyone is interested. I don't remember anything about C/Sgt Munro, in fact this is the first that I knew about a cemetery within the confines of the hospital!
