I have just found your website and the pictures of the gravestones for the Stewart family in New Abbey Burial ground posted by Spoons. I am very interested in these as I am descended through the family. I see that there is l loat of writing on the James Stewart/Captain Charles Stewart stone. Is there anywhere that there is a transciption of the entire stone? I have been told that the Stewart family has an entire fenced plot at New Abbey Burial ground but have no idea whether this is true or not.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Hi Pepperpot and welcome to the forum.
The Stewart family graves are contained within a walled area of the New Abbey Burial Ground. The wall can just be seen in the left-centre of the photo. (just under the Abbey windows)
I'll try to get you a photo of the area and a transcription of the stones - but it might take a couple of weeks.
There are some more details of Francis and his family at
http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/warmemscot-ftopic258-0-asc-15.html
Details of the family home, Shambellie House, New Abbey are at
http://www.nms.ac.uk/our_museums/museum_of_costume.aspx
and a number of on-line newspapapers have an obituary for the last owner of the house, Charles William Stewart - just "google" the name - with some further family details.
Will be in touch

Thank you so much for your reply and offer to try to get another picture. That would be absolutely fantastic and very much appreciated. I have a copy of a book about the building of Shambellie and also the one by Charles W Stewart about the costume collection. I have also read the obits. Once again thank you very much

Thank you Ken for all your help. I so much appreciate you getting me the photos and sending the transcriptions. This is been a real boost to my family research. And so great as I live in Canada so is not too likely that I will be getting there. The photos were fantastic.
So once again thanks Ken
