Sacred to the memory of Christopher McDonald Esq., Deputy Commissary of Ordinance, Calcutta who departed this life at Somerville Place, Monteith Row, Glasgow on the 6th day of March 1850 aged 58 years.
He entered the Army in 1800 and was actively engaged in the greater number of engagements that took place in the East Indies in the past half century. He was on a visit to his native country, Ross-Shire when he was seized with the illness which terminated in his death. Few men have withstood the climate of the East for half a century that were blessed with greater bodily vigour, and perhaps none have departed leaving a greater respect behind them for his name and service.
His remains was brought and interred here by order of his first cousin Margaret McRae by whom this mark of respect is placed over his worthy remains.
