No sign of him in the cemeteries at Ypres or on the Menin gate memorial. Best bet might be to try the Glasgow roll of honour to try and find a date of death.

I agree with Paul. For such a common name you need something else.

If you've been trawling through the CWGC databases you'll maybe have noticed that for some reason quite a lot of entries for 1915 have no family details. This makes it very difficult to identify a name.

Of course it would be even worse if the year of death was wrong, the surname was Thomson instead of Thompson and John was actually a second christian name, all of which we have seen before. Even a regiment would help.

There are two John Thompsons on the Glasgow Roll of Honour, and about a dozen John Thomsons.

I'm about to go out but will post details later.

Paul, the Glasgow Roll on lists name, rank, regiment and address. No dates unfortunately.
