Name: QUEEN, ANDREW
Initials: A
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Bombardier
Regiment/Service: Royal Field Artillery
Unit Text: "D" Bty. 186th Bde.
Date of Death: 17/08/1917
Service No: 7584
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: VII. C. 4.
Cemetery: VLAMERTINGHE NEW MILITARY CEMETERY

SNWM:

Surname QUEEN
Firstname Andrew
Service Number 7584
Date Death 17/08/1917
Place of birth Haywood Lanark
SNWM roll ROYAL HORSE AND ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY
Rank Bdr
Theatre of death F.& F.

According to the details on Andrew Queen’s Birth Certificate, he was registered as Andrew Darling, the illegitimate son of Isabella Queen, Farm Servant and William Darling, Coal Miner. He was born on 26th November 1892 at Haywood in the district of Carnwath, Lanarkshire. The certificate is signed by both parents – i.e. Isabella Queen and William Darling.

Catherine Darling, age 17, daughter of Andrew and Marion Darling (nee White) married James Queen, age 21, Coal Miner on 12th January 1894 at the Free Church Manse, Harthill, Lanarkshire. (Andrew Queen or Darling was born 2 years PREVIOUS to this date)

The details on Catherine Surgeon's (previously Queen, nee Darling) Death Certificate show she was the daughter of Andrew Darling (Quarry Labourer) and Mary Darling (nee White). The certificate also states that she was married 1st to James Queen, Coal Miner and secondly to William Surgeon, Coal Miner.

Without further research, it looks like Andrew was possibly the child of Catherine Surgeon's elder brother William Darling. BUT, as she subsequently married a James Queen, the scenario gets even more complicated!!
