In ever loving memory of my dear husband Kenneth MacLeod, ex Sergeant, Bugh Police died 19th June 1947 aged 58. Also of Kenneth our dear son Killed in Italy 22nd Nov 1944 aged 22. Also my beloved mother Mary MacKenzie died 31st May 1963 aged 90. Also of the late Alexandrina (Lexy) MacLeod widow of the late Kenneth died 25th June 1991 aged 87.
Old Contemptibles Assn 1914 Aug 5th to Nov 22nd. K MacLeod DCM, Seaforth Highlanders Inverness Branch.

**Mod edit Adam**

Here is the DCM citation. Note MacLeod senior's number. The '3/' shows he was a reservist. That explains the Old Contemptible plaque because he would have been recalled to the 2nd Bn Seaforth Highlanders in August 1914 and landed with them at Boulogne.

His citation is dated September 1916 so I assume the action described was at the Somme

MacLEOD, K
Number: 3/7171
Rank: Sergeant
Unit: Seaforth Highlanders
DCM Gazetted: 22.9.1916
Citation
For conspicuous gallantry in action. When his platoon officer was killed early in the advance he led the platoon with great dash under very heavy fire. He got as far as anyone in the battalion and, though he had only five men left, he set to work to consolidate the captured trench. He then led a bombing attack with great vigour as long as his bombs lasted.

And here are the CWGC details of the son mentioned above.

MacLEOD, KENNETH MURRAY
Rank: Gunner
Regiment/Service: Royal Artillery
Unit Text: 97 (The Kent Yeomanry) Field Regt.
Age: 22
Date of Death: 20/11/1944
Service No: 14315035
Additional information: Son of Kenneth and Catherine MacLeod, of Inverness.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: IV, C, 4.
Cemetery: FORLI WAR CEMETERY

Catherine MacLeod is not on the stone above but was Catherine Money (or Mooney). Lexy MacKenzie was Kenneth Macleod's second wife.

In loving memory of Rear Admiral Sir Anthony Cecil Capel Miers, VC, KBE, CB, DSO and Bar Nov 11th 1906 - June 30th 1985. Freeman of the Royal Burgh of Inverness.

**Mod Edit Adam**

His Victoria Cross Citation

Lieutenant Commander Anthony Cecil Chapel Miers DSO Royal Navy
Whilst on patrol in HM Submarine Torbay off the Greek coast on the 4th March 1942. Lieutenant Commander Miers sighted a northbound convoy of four troopships entering the South Corfu Channel and since they had been too far distant for him to attack initially, he decided to follow in the hope of catching them in Corfu Harbour.
During the night 4/5 March, Torbay approached undetected up the channel and remained on the surface charging her battery. Unfortunately the convoy passed straight through the channel but on the morning of the 5th March, in glassy sea conditions, Miers successfully attacked two store ships present in the roadstead and then brought Torbay safely back to the open sea. The submarine endured 40 depth charges and had been in closely patrolled enemy waters for seventeen hours.
