Gostwhiperer has posted this Inverness headstone.

The way I read this stone it was erected by Lexy MacLeod nee MacKenzie and then her details were added at the bottom after her death.

In ever loving memory of my dear husband Kenneth MacLeod, ex Sergeant, Bugh Police died 19th June 1947 aged 58. Also of Kenneth our dear son Killed in Italy 22nd Nov 1944 aged 22. Also my beloved mother Mary MacKenzie died 31st May 1963 aged 90. Also of the late Alexandrina (Lexy) MacLeod widow of the late Kenneth died 25th June 1991 aged 87.

Are these the CWGC details of the son mentioned above? The age, place, father's name are the same and the date is only two days out (which is common on headstones). However the mother listed is not the woman named on the headstone.

MacLEOD, KENNETH MURRAY
Rank: Gunner
Regiment/Service: Royal Artillery
Unit Text: 97 (The Kent Yeomanry) Field Regt.
Age: 22
Date of Death: 20/11/1944
Service No: 14315035
Additional information: Son of Kenneth and Catherine MacLeod, of Inverness.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: IV, C, 4.
Cemetery: FORLI WAR CEMETERY

I've just checked the death certificate for the ex-policeman and he was indeed married to Catherine Money or Mooney (can't read it very well).

He then re-married a woman name Alexandrina Mackenzie.

So you read the stone correct. It just has no mention of the first wife whatsoever.

David

Thanks for looking that up. I suspected that may have been the case but Lexi Macleod had 'our dear son' on the headstone which gave me some doubt.

Cheers

Adam
