BLAIRGOWRIE ADVERTISER: 08.12.44
Last week-end Mr and Mrs John Law, 40 William Street, Blairgowrie, received the sad news, that their son, Pte. John Thomson Law, Worcestershire Regiment, was killed in action last month on the Western Front.
Pte. Law was 32 years of age. He served three years in the Royal Artillery before being transferred to the Worcesters about six months ago. He landed in France after D-Day.
Before joining the Forces he was employed as a motor lorry driver at Erichtside Works, Blairgowrie. He took a keen interest in sport, particularly football.
Of a quiet disposition, Pte. Law was an industrious young man, of fine character, of whom everyone spoke highly.
His younger brother, Robert, who is in the Gordon Highlanders (Transport Section), is serving in North-West Europe.
In St Mary’s Church on Sunday Rev. James Leithead said:- “I deeply regret to say that news has been received that John Thomson Law has been killed in action in North-West Europe. Not many details are known as yet, but the Chaplain who wrote gives the comforting assurance that he received fitting burial, along with others, near a farm, and the people, he says, came with tributes of flowers and placed them on the graves in token of their esteem for the men who drove the invader across the borders into his own country. We extend our sincere sympathy to Mr and Mrs Law and the remaining members of the family in their great sorrow”.

John Law is also commemorated on the Blairgowrie High School Memorial Board and the former St. Mary’s Church Memorial Plaque. |
