This island is located off North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, and is not to be confused with Great Bernera (which is off Lewis) or the uninhabited island south of Barra.

The cemetery containing wargraves is the old graveyard, in the north of the island. The new cemetery (on the southern shores of Berneray) holds no wargraves. The old graveyard can be approached on foot from the end of the island road, near Sandhill Farm. When parking cars, please ensure the access road to the farm is not obstructed. In summer, the smell of rotting seaweed on the nearby beach can be unpleasant. The cemetery can be seen on the hillside, a few hundred yards to the west. The entrance-gate is located on the far side of the cemetery.
