The CWG for Kenneth Alexander Keswick MacEwen is in New Abbey Burial Ground. His date of death is 13 April 1941.

He was serving with 245 (Northern Rhodesian) Squadron RAF which, at the time of his death, was part of 13 Group, Fighter Command, flying Hawker Hurricanes and based at RAF Aldergrove.
Two other members of 245 Sqdrn died on the same day:
Flt. Lt. T R Kitson - listed at Blackpool Crematorium
W/O R W Johnson - buried in Lytham St. Anne's Cemetery
Spoons has already had a look in his books but without success.
Anybody else heard of him? Could this have been the result of a crash at RAF Squires Gate? Was a W/O a "flying rank" ?
Cheers Ken
ps he was a "Squadron Leader (Obs)" - was that unusual in a Fighter Squadron? |

I can be moderately sure that they were not killed in a crash involving aircraft of fighter command, bomber command, coastal command or transport aircraft.
WO would not normally be a flying rank but he may well keep his hand in at flying after being promoted to that rank from FSgt which is a flying rank. Senior officers often did the same.
Any chance they could have died in a road crash or other accident do you think?

Squadron Leader MacEwen and his two colleagues were killed when their Bristol Blenheim Mk 1 L6780 crashed on take-off from RAF Blackpool/Squires Gate.
