Hi
I'm shona and live in Musselburgh East lothian, but I originally come from a small fishing village called Gourdon on the North east coast of Scotland, just 15 miles south of Stonehaven. I am a keen geneologist and have acctually documented all the graves in the "New" Cemetry at Inverbervie (which lies at the entrance to the village of Gourdon). I am currently trying to get all the information into booklet form, but this is taking longer than anticipated due to life getting in the way!!!! I have details of all the war graves in this cemetry and in due course will put them in a post. Next time I am home I will take pix.
I am also in the process of documenting the details of the "Great War" dead from this village too. Names taken from the war memorial in Gourdon.
In time I hope to get round the local cemetries in or near musselburgh and take pix there too. (If this has not already been done!)

Shona,
"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans" - so said the great man.
I look forward to all you can contribute to this forum.
Just thinking off the top of my head, isn't Musselburgh one of the larger Scottish communities which doesn't have a either a War Memorial or a roll of all those who died? I can't remember _________________ There must be a place under the sun where hearts of Olden Glory grow young ..... |

BTW I like the lines from the Runrig song!
There is a WWII memorial in the centre of Musselburgh with names of the WWII dead. There is also a memorial to the WWI dead in Inveresk cemetry, but for some bizarre reason there are no names on it! I am desperately trying to get names of the WWI dead for a project related to the rugby club.
I was down in Hawick a few weeks ago to watch my son play rugby against Hawick Albion.

Hello Goudongirl,
I was just up in your town today, but I'll leave the Bervie/Gourdon war graves for you to add as you'll have more than I took!
Cheers,
DelBoy. |
