Hello.

I hope my first post isn't going to be asking too much. I'm looking for some help to find a photograph of a War Grave of a family member which is in the Minturno War Cemetery in Italy.

Is there any website online which may have photographic records of War Graves abroad? I know there is a telephone number on the CGGC website for the graveyard but does anyone perhaps know an email address of someone who would deal with enquiries for the Minturno War Cemetery?

I know it's a longshot but any information will be greatfully received!

The info of the family member is below:-

Name: SHANKS, ARCHIBALD
Initials: A
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Guardsman
Regiment/Service: Scots Guards
Unit Text: 2nd Bn.
Age: 20
Date of Death: 22/10/1943
Service No: 2701027
Additional information: Son of Robert Wilson Shanks and of Violet Ellen Shanks (nee Jones), of Leven, Fife.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: VIII, K, 21.
Cemetery: MINTURNO WAR CEMETERY

I'm not sure if anyone here can help directly (but you never know).

You could try http://ww2chat.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=58.

Good luck with the hunt.

I should have mentioned that he is listed on the Leven War Memorial which you can see on our sister project http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2688&highlight=leven&mforum=warmemscot

Thank You for the information Paul!

I'll give the other website a go and see if anyone can come up with anything.

I was over in Italy in 2005 and went to Naples on a visit. If only I'd have known at the time he was in the war cemetery there I could have taken a photograph of the headstone myself at the time. Sad

Anyway, cheers again Paul!

Hi, Have you been successful in obtaining a photo of your family member? If not we have a house in Cassino & on my next visit I would be more than happy to visit the cemetery and take the necessary photo`s and email them on to you. Look foreward to hearing from you. David

Hi David,

Unfortunately I've not been able to get a photograph of my family members grave stone in the cemetery in Italy.

Thank You for your extremely kind offer to take a photograph for me. I'd be most grateful if you could!

I've private messaged you with my details.

All the best David!
