I need a wee hand with this man.

Family stone in Riddrie Park Cemetery saying that William Alexander was killed in 1916 and was the son of William Alexander. The inscription reads:

In loving memory of William Alexander died 29th September 1912
Also his son William killed in France 1916
And his grandson William died 27th January 1940

So he was possibly married and the father of William III (the grandson).

There's only one W.A. listed on SNWM as being born in Glasgow (although there are others with no place of birth):

Surname ALEXANDER
Firstname William
Service Number 701840
Date Death 02/10/1916
Place of birth Glasgow
Other 23rd (County of London) Bn.
SNWM roll SCOTTISH CASUALTIES EXTRACTED FROM ENGLISH REGIMENTS
Rank Pte
Theatre of death F.& F.

Is this is the same man with a different number? Confused

Name: ALEXANDER, WILLIAM
Initials: W
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: London Regiment
Unit Text: 23rd Bn.
Date of Death: 02/10/1916
Service No: 4930
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: VII. G. 31.
Cemetery: WARLENCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY

His MIC confirms that he is the same man as both numbers are listed.
