The Communal Cemetery of Deerlijk contains four Commonwelath burials. These four graves are from liberators of the village Deerlijk in September 1944. All four graves date back to the beginning of September 1944, namely September 6, 7 and 8th 1944.
The liberation of Deerlijk began on September 5th and ended on September 7th after a very heavy shelling and bombing from the adjacent Zwevegem been freed allready. The village was very badly affected, many lives and material were lost.
These four victims are buried here, they are all soldiers of Scottish divisions:
The 24-year-old Dean Wilfred
The 37 year old Herbert William Hanby
The 28-year-old Donald Mead
The 33-year-old James Charles Neville
Three of them are English and not Scottish, of one i'm not sure this is Donald Mead, he could be Scottish.
